Hello Everyone,

Founded in 1917 the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is currently the world's largest professional geological society. Here at the University of Texas at Austin, The Jackson School of Geosciences houses one of the largest student AAPG chapters in the country. Each semester, we strive to educate students in both a technical and professional sense. It is our ultimate goal to prepare undergraduate and graduate students alike for the challenges that lie ahead as they enter the energy industry.

We are very pleased to be turning a new page in the history of the UT AAPG Student Chapter by increasing our level of involvement, both within the Jackson School of Geosciences and in other areas of the Geosciences community.  We have recently held two very successful short courses taught by guest speakers from the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology, Mr. Jerry Lucia and Dr. Michael Hudec.  In addition, we had a strong showing of students at the 2005 AAPG meeting in Calgary and significant student involvement at the 2006 meeting in Houston.

In the future, we plan to increase our level of interaction with outside entities like Shell Oil Co. through joint short courses, seminars, mentoring and field trips.  In fall 2006 we will be inviting two distinguished scientists, Dr.’s Vitor Abreu and Noel James, to give guest lectures, teach short courses, and meet with students about their research.

If you or your company would like to become involved with the nations largest AAPG student chapter, please do not hesitate to contact one of our committee members.

Until then, we hope you find this web site both enjoyable and informative.

Welcome!
