Pielke Sr., 2008: Assessment of dynamical climate downscaling methods using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, J. Geophys. Res., 113, D09112, doi:10.1029/2007JD009216; click pdf to download). Read the paper, in particular, Figure 8, and explain why precipitation is more accurately simulated (as reflected in higher correlations between observations and computer simulations) over the mountainous regions in the western US than else where.
