Field Trip #3:
Paleozoic Carbonates, Llano Uplift

I. OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify lithostratigraphic units in a sequence of Paleozoic carbonate rocks in a cut bank of the Pedernales River.
  • Measure and describe the same.
  • Measure and plot the orientation of cross beds in Cambrian Hickory sandstone near Enchanted Rock State Park.

II. WHEN:

  • March 2 or 3.

We depart from the east basement entrance.
Trips will return to Austin by about 6 PM.

IV. BACKGROUND MATERIAL

Paleozoics features, Llano uplift
Paleozoic Rocks (brown), Precambrian plutons
(pink) and Pennsylvanian faults in the Llano uplift.

 

III. BRING:

  • Lab Manual
  • Clipboard & field book
  • Compass, ruler, protractor
  • Mechanical & colored pencils
  • Hand lens, hammer, acid bottle
  • Water, lunch, raincoat

 

Be on time and come prepared!
