2008 Announcements
July 16, 2008
- Grades for 660A and 660B were submitted yesterday. Scores for the Hecla projects can be seen by stopping by my office or via an email. I am out of town for the rest of this week but should be back early next week. Thank you all for a great class.

Last Announcements before departure:
- Guidebooks are available in Danny Vinzant's office; apologies for this late announcement. If you aren't able to pick one up today, they will be available Monday morning before we leave.
- Please be at the east basement door with your gear Monday morning, 6:30 AM. You will need your field gear - do not pack it with your other stuff - and a lunch. We will not be stopping for food; have a lunch and water with you.

- Guidebooks are at the binders and should be ready by mid-week.

- Scholarship awards have now been processed. In lieu of thank you letters before departure, we will send donors cards from the field!

- The Route page has been updated for 2008. Geologic route maps have been added to the Calendar pages for travel days. See Day 1 for an example!
- Download a Google Earth kml file of placemarks for 660 field sites visited in 2005. Sorry, had no time to update these but many are the same places we'll visit this year.

- No additional meeting was arranged. Please make every effort to attend the final meeting this Friday at 5:30 in 2.218. This is a very important meeting, email me if you can't attend.

- Our final meeting before leaving will be Friday, May 2, (last day of classes) at 5:30 PM in Rm. 2.218. An additional meeting before then to discuss projects is planned, but not yet confirmed. Stay tuned...

- The proper reference for the book I mentioned this evening is "Geology of the American Southwest" by Scott Baldridge. It is available at Amazon for about $35 and I highly recommend it.

- Our first 660 meeting is Friday, April 18, at 5:30-6:30 in Rm. 2.218. Topics to be discussed, with handouts, are how to prepare for the class, the schedule this summer and course projects. If you cannot attend, please send me an email.
- Preregistration for the summer session is this week. You must preregister this week to enroll in Geo660 this summer; there are no other options. Do not miss this deadline; you will not be able to enroll later.

- As indicated in the information packet, to qualify for Geology Foundation summer financial aid, you must submit a FAFSA to the Office of Student Financial Services by March 31. This can be done online but requires certain information that takes time to gather - don't wait too long to get started.

- Enrolling in Geo. 660 this summer? It begins now - Danny (Rm. 2.120) has information packets that include sign-up forms. Get yours today and return your forms ASAP.
- Still don't know whether you're going this year? March 1 is the deadline for returning all forms.
- The class starts this year on Monday, May 19 and ends Sunday, June 29.
