| Professor
Steve P. Grand
Carleton Professor of Geophysics
Ph.D., California Institute
of Technology, 1986.
Field of Study:
Seismology
Short Biography:
Dr. Grand's research has focused on seismically
imaging the mantle of the earth. This has included an effort to develop
a three-dimensional image of shear velocity throughout the mantle of the
earth. The ultimate goal of this effort is to determine the dynamics of
flow in the mantle.
Dr. Grand has also been involved in several regional seismic studies including
studies of the Kurile subduction zone, the India-Tibet collision zone,
the East Pacific Rise, and the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Recently He has
been involved in a passive seismic deployment across the Rio Grande Rift
and Colorado Plateau.
