DR. KOCUREK

UNDERGRADUATE:

Living With A Planet (GEO 302P). An introductory course that addresses the components of the Earth System (lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere), their dynamics and interactions, and the human impact upon these systems. This course is designed for both science and non-science majors, and is co-taught with Jay Banner.

Sedimentary Rocks (GEO 416M). An intermediate course that examines many aspects of sedimentary rocks: fluid flow, grain transport, sedimentary structures, depositional environments, sedimentary basins, and sedimentary petrology. Lectures are accompanied by lab. The course has terrigenous and carbonate components, and is co-instructed with Jay Banner or Charles Kerans.

Field Geology (GEO 660). A wide-ranging, senior course instructed by a variety of faculty in field sites from Texas to Wyoming during 6 weeks in the summer.  Kocurek teaches a portion in New Mexico centered upon Jurassic aeolian/sabkha/marine units.

GRADUATE:

Sedimentary Processes (GEO 380E). A course that addresses sedimentary processes from fundamental principles. Topics include: (1) basic fluid dynamics, (2) grain   transport, (3) bedforms and sedimentary structures, (4) bedform dynamics, (5) basin-scale processes, and (6) complex systems.
