Professor J. Richard Kyle
Professor and The Third Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Yager Professorship.

Ph.D., University of  Western Ontario, 1977

Field of Study:
Ore Deposits Geology

Short Biography:
Dr. Richard Kyle teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the geology, origin, and evaluation of metallic and industrial mineral resources.  He also teaches GEO 298T, Supervised Instruction for Graduate Students, a course required of all graduate students who serve as departmental Teaching Assistants.  Rich also is a member of the Graduate Studies Committee of the Energy and Mineral Resources Program, as well as an affiliate of the Institute of Latin American Studies.

Dr. Kyle's diverse research interests focus on mineral resource formation as an integral aspect of the development of the host geologic environment.  Rich's major interests are in "strata-controlled" deposits ranging from low-temperature groundwater and sedimentary basin systems to volcanic and plutonic environments.  Current research includes the application of high resolution X-ray computed tomography to ore genesis and processing.  He promotes the importance of field experience to complement the traditional classroom education and offers students the opportunity to participate in international field work in mineral resources geology.
