After retiring in July 1992, I was able to complete two major projects: the North Sheet of the Tectonic Map of North America (the South Sheet had been completed and was published in 1992) and the study of the Paleozoic rocks in the Solitario, Trans-Pecos Tecas. Research: 1) Structural studies of selected areas in Big Bend region of Texas to decipher the superposition of Laramide and Rio Grande rift episodes. 2) Detailed study of the tectonic melonge that compose the Dagger Flat and Marathon Formations in the Solitario. Why are these same formations intact in the Marathon Basin? 3) Continue study of volcanic ash-bearing layers in the Cambro-Ordovician units in the Solitario. What are their relastions to the ash layers in the marine platform rocks of comparable age in the Precordillera of Argentina? Continue to demonstrate then utility of hand-held photography taken from orbit from manned spacecraft. |
