Research Interests
Research Interests
I am interested in understanding the nature and cause of past climate changes, and their impact on the environment, particularly as they pertain to future climate change. To do so,
I focus primarily on sedimentological, geochemical and isotopic changes in the sediment record. I am especially interested in the use of annual sediment records in the development of high resolution climate reconstructions. I utilize a variety of geochemical and isotopic approaches including scanning m-x-ray fluorescence (for in-situ elemental variations in sediment cores) and compound specific organic molecular and isotopic (dD, d13C) approaches (e.g., "biomarkers").
News
Some of our recent work (Shanahan et al., 2009, Science) was covered by Andrew Revkin of the New York Times (Revkin, "Study finds pattern of severe drought" NYT, April 16, 2009) and can be found here (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/17/science/earth/17drought.html)
