Dear JSG Student,

The Jackson School of Geosciences is happy to announce that registration for The NeoGeo Trip, TNT, on August 22 & 23rd, 2011 has begun. This is a unique opportunity to meet and interact with your fellow incoming Jackson School students. This is also a fantastic opportunity to interact with the faculty and staff who will help guide you through your time at UT.

Current Jackson School students and faculty will be your team leaders and guides as we take a short tour of the Texas Hill Country. To enable the attendance of all who wish to come, the entire trip will be funded by the Jackson School.

We will begin the day of August 22nd with an early morning (7:45am) breakfast rendezvous on campus near the Geological Sciences building followed by some fun ice breakers. We will then load everyone onto big luxury buses that will take us to visit some of the most beautiful and geologically important Hill Country locales. Our first stop will be Enchanted Rock, a grand and mystic granite outcropping that is a must climb for all who visit. A box lunch will be provided after the climb. We will then head off to Inks Lake State Park where we will enjoy the cool waters at Devil’s Waterhole. Our final stop of the day will be Thunderbird Resort on Lake Buchanan where we will have a chance to do some swimming, canoeing and team building exercises followed by a BBQ feast and an overnight stay in the resort’s cabins (men and women will be housed separately). On day two, we will be picked up by the friendly buses and taken to Pedernales Falls State Park where we will enjoy a box lunch and learn about the local geology from our current students and faculty. We will be back on campus at around 3:00pm, in time for you to make the 6:30pm JSG Gone to Texas happening and then on to the university rally at 8:30pm.

We do look forward to meeting you and hope you feel as we do that this is a great kick - off to your time at The University of Texas at Austin and especially the Jackson School of Geosciences.

To facilitate logistics and assure yourself a spot we will consider you registered for the trip when you print, fill out, sign, and return the registration and associated form which can be downloaded here. Please include a deposit check in the amount of $75.00 with the Registration/Liability Release form (make the check payable to The University of Texas at Austin). The deposit check is fully refundable when you check in for the field trip. Both waiver and deposit must be received no later than July 22, 2011.

Cheers
Sharon
