How JSG support packages compareSupport offered to individual students will vary widely from institution to institution based on a number of factors, such as an individual candidate's specific fit with the institution's research goals. On average, however, based on comparative national data, the Jackson School has one of the most competitive financial support packages, for graduate students in the earth sciences. The American Geological Institute (AGI), which collects information on earth science graduate programs, looked at financial support in academic year 2005-06 from the top 16 programs from the U.S. News & World Report graduate rankings. AGI's data shows that the average support for graduate students at the top programs other than the Jackson School is $12,100, not including benefits. The average Jackson School graduate student received, in academic year 2005-06, between $13,900 and $14,600—15-20 percent more than their peers, on average, at other top schools.
