Microbeam instrumentation provides
micro-scale imaging
and non-destructive elemental analysis to projects ranging
across a large segment of the research interests represented in the Jackson
School. Outside users also bring many interesting projects into these labs. For
a connection to the larger community of microbeam research, visit the homepage
of the
Microbeam Analysis Society.
INSTRUMENTS:
TRAINING & BECOMING AN AUTHORIZED USER
SCHEDULING:
Instrument scheduling is open to authorized users by means of calendars posted
by each instrument. Users may schedule only a single session (4 hours on SEM and
XRD; 12 hours on probe and ESEM) in advance. On using this session the user is
eligible to sign up for another session. Walk-in use of unscheduled hours is
permitted. All users must fill in required information in the log books.
OUTSIDE USERS:
Users from other departments at UT and also from outside
the university occasionally bring samples to the Electron Microbeam Laboratory.
Because this is primarily a teaching laboratory all users are required to run
their own samples. There is no technician available to collect data for outside
users. Most outside use takes place in the context of collaborative projects
related to current research conducted by authorized users (see training
section).
