GEOLOGY - IT HELP REQUEST FORM

Computer Resources for the Geology Department

Almost all spaces in the Jackson Geosciences building have wireless access as of September 2006. All rooms in the  building have network access through a 10/100 switched network. The network also connects two student PC labs, one UNIX lab, two multimedia classrooms, and two computer classrooms. The lab facilities are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to all graduate students, undergraduate geology majors, faculty and staff of the department. The PC labs contain Windows XP computers, MacOS computers, laser printer, color printers, large format color printers, color flatbed scanners, and slide scanners. The UNIX labs have SGI and Sun workstations as well as laser, color, and large format printers. All equipment in the labs and classrooms have a four-year life cycle so we always have modern computers for the students to use.

The department also has servers that can host web pages, and file and print services, allowing users access to their data from any computer on the network.
