Wulf Gose Research Scientist Ph. D., Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas 1970 |
Wulf spent his post-doctoral years at NASA in Houston studying the magnetic properties of lunar samples returned by the Apollo astronauts. In 1974 he joined the newly formed UT Marine Science Institute in Galveston where he built a paleomagnetic laboratory and in 1981, he transferred his operation to the Department of Geological Sciences. Wulf used paleomagnetism as a technique to understand the complicated tectonic history of Mesoamerica and the Caribbean plate. Lately, he worked with Precambrian rocks from Antarctica and Africa in the framework of Rodinia reconstructions. Magnetostratigraphy as a means of dating sedimentary strata is another aspect of his work. For the past ten years, he has applied paleomagnetic techniques to archeological samples mainly to test the integrity of a fire place and to estimate the maximum temperature the heated rocks experienced. |
