Since its beginnings the Sandstone Tutorial has
been 'field tested' with undergraduate students
engaged in the challenge of learning sandstone
petrology. At the earliest stages of
development, input from these willing
participants was invaluable in ferreting out
programming flaws and errors in the text. Over
the longer term however, the more important
impact has been the influence of student users
on the path of tutorial development. Are the
explanations clear? Is a point made too often or
not often enough? What new or enhanced features
would be the most useful to add? What did you
like the most? What stinks? Semester by
semester, the answers that have come back to us
from student evaluations have given us insights
into how best to devote our development efforts.
Posted here are results from the student
evaluations. Look through them to see how well
our tutorial has served the students who have
tested it and to get an impression of how this
interactive development process has worked. This
is a process we heartily recommend to anyone who
is in the process of developing multimedia
curriculum materials.
We are interested to gather information more
widely, so if you have been using the tutorial
in a classroom setting we want to hear from you!
