Undergraduate Student Visits to the Jackson School of Geosciences

Are you are a high school junior or senior or perhaps currently at another college or university and thinking about transferring to UT and the Jackson School in particular? Do you have a keen interest in the geosciences? Would you like to visit the Jackson School before you make your decision to join us? If your answers are yes, then you are at the right place.

We have set aside one day each month during the fall and spring semesters to visit with prospective students. Parents are encouraged and welcome to attend all portions of the visit as well. These meetings are a way for us to welcome and introduce prospective students to the Jackson School and are not part, nor do they influence the admissions process.

During the visit you will meet with one of our professors and current undergraduate faculty advisor, Dr. Richard Ketcham. He will give you an overview of the department and the Jackson School as a whole. There are some exciting ongoing developments and many more on the horizon. You will also have an opportunity to meet with one of our undergraduate advisors, Jesse Garcia or Renee Waters who will give you a more detailed plan of what to look forward to on your journey towards an undergraduate degree at the Jackson School. Be sure to ask about the merit based scholarships given during every long semester. To wrap up the visit a current JSG undergraduate student will give you a tour of the building, there are some real gems to see, followed by lunch (our treat) at a nearby eatery. This is a great way for both the prospective student and parent(s) to get a down-to-earth view on being a Jackson School student.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in please look over the dates below and let us know when you would like to pay us a visit.
