Digital Elevation Model


The DEM (30 meter resolution) that was available from INEGI does include the south section of the study area, which is the most heavily studied portion.  Parts of the Sierra de Tamaulipas and the Aldama Volcanic Complex (to the east) are also included in this dataset.  The 3D Analyst tool in ArcMap was used to create a TIN of the data.  Some of these steps are seen below.

This image is the Aldama TIN oriented as to be looking due east.  The mountains in the background are part of the Aldama Pleisocene volcanic complex.  The higher elevations in the forground represent the foothills of the Sierra deTamaulipas.  The flat land in between these two features is the location of Sistema
Zacatón, and the location of the sinkholes is visible to the far left of the image about halfway in the middle.

 



Here is a closer look at how the sinkholes are represented with a 30 meter resolution TIN.  Compare this to a LADAR image of Zacatón.
