CCD - Coal Creek Domain: Exotic Island Arc terrane

Lithologies

The Coal Creek Domain constitutes a 1326-1275 Ma tonalitic to dioritic plutonic complex with minor gabbros, amphibolites and mafic schists and includes a large tabular serpentinitized harzburgite (elongate black unit on map at left). The CCD has an isotopic and geochemical signature and early deformation and metamorphic history distinct from PSD and VSD and is only found in the southeastern portion of the uplift.  The CCD is interpreted as an exotic ensimatic island arc terrane.  See Roback (1996).

Ages and relationships to VSD & PSD in eastern uplift

Intrusive relationships are still well preserved (upper right and left) although the units are all foliated.  The plutonic complex consists of an older grey gneiss with an early deformational and metamorphic history that has been intruded by younger tonalites (upper right) (Roback, 1996).  These tonalites contain the dominant S2 fabric observed in the PSD & VSD.  Minor mafic schists best record the deformation observed in the other domains. The harzburgite was regionally metamorphosed and deformed, then later serpentinized (Gillis, 1989).
