Field Trip 1: Tertiary Clastics, Pine Bluff Golf Course and Red Bluff, Bastrop


I. OBJECTIVES:                                

  • Measure and describe a section of terrigenous clastics.
  • Draw an outcrop sketch to document stratigraphic relationships.
  • Identify river pebbles for provenance determination.
  • Identify sedimentary structures in several outcrops.

II. WHEN:

  • January 28 OR 29 (Dr. Kerans); February 4 (Dr. Horton)

  •  7:30 AM departure - see trip rosters on Blackboard.

We will leave the field at 4 PM and be back in Austin by about 5:30.

III. BRING:

  • Clipboard, 8.5 x 11" paper, field book, & appropriate pages of the lab manual.
  • Brunton compass, rulers, field book, tracing paper
  • Mechanical & colored pencils, clipboard
  • Hand lens, hammer, acid bottle
  • Water, lunch, raincoat

Be on time and come prepared!
