The stable isotope facility houses five gas-source isotope ratio mass spectometers (IRMS) and the peripherals for analysis of gas, liquid, silicate, carbonate, organic and molecular organic compounds.
The facility is housed on the 5th floor of the JBG building. Click on the link below to find us.

ThermoFinnigan MAT 253 Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer capable of performing mass-47 analysis. (Quinn, PI)

ThermoFinnigan Delta V Advantage Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer equipped with a high temperature elemental analyzer (TC/EA) for isotopic analysis of bulk organic matter (d13C and d15N) and a gas chromatograph for compound specific isotope analysis of molecular markers (d13C, dD). (Shanahan, PI)

ThermoFinnigan Delta V Plus isotope ratio mass spectrometer with a 9 collector system for static collection of N2-O2-Ar-CO2, equipped with a gas bench and precon. System used for the stable isotope analysis of small quantities of CO2, N2O and CH4 in gas mixtures and the high precision measurement of O2, N2, CO2, N2O and CH4 concentrations in gas mixtures (Breecker, PI)

ThermoFinnigan MAT 253 isotope ratio mass spectrometer (CF-IRMS) with 5 cup CNOS collector, including Dual Inlet system with changeover valve, Microvolume with two exchangeable cold fingers, HD collector, and an additional Faraday channel for chlorine analysis. Equipped with a high temperature elemental analyzer, a gas bench II and a laser extraction system (NewWave MIr-10) (Barnes, PI)

Organic Geochemistry Laboratory. Shanahan, PI link The organic geochemistry laboratory is located in ~800 square feet of designated space on the fifth floor of JGB, adjacent to the stable isotope facility. The laboratory contains all of the necessary instrumentation and equipment for the extraction, preparation and analysis of molecular organic compounds "biomarkers"
