This opportunity is one of my best geological experiences so far. In the field, experienced instructors selected reliable students, and as a result, we were able to achieve a lot. Before the field time, the program participants were given some tasks.

For example, I helped with planning the places where the researchers and I were to visit, including obtaining the correct permissions and making reservations. We were to bring some field items such as rock hammers and sledges, loupes, and maps of the area. The preparation was important (especially for the students) to understand how to conduct field work, how to prepare in our business life, and also how to conduct scientific research, that we will face in our future.

The IRES was an opportunity for an international life experience. You can make good friendships, think in a universal way, improve your English (for Turkish participants), and most importantly, understand or see the unique concepts or structures in the geology. I can say that Turkey has many geologic features that formed close to each other. We were able to experience a geologic variety in the program.

One of the best things about this program is that it is ‘never ending’, since you develop good friendships and gain experience in geology. Moreover, you can make some scientific products after the program.

I had wanted to spend time in a productive way during the summer and I had a good time in terms of geology, culture and friendship. Being a part of this program was amazing. Thanks to the NSF, Thanks to the IRES, Thanks to Professor.
