In the summer of 2009, I had an opportunity to
attend the NSF-IRES program. This project was not only about geology, but also to learn about
different cultures and to meet new people. We spent time both in the field and historical places.
I met people from US who are interested in geology. I spent time in the field with US students
and professors. It was a good experience for me. I learned many things about geology and fieldwork.
We were a team in the field. This project also provided me experience about geology of western Turkey.
We examined many different types of geological features and structures. We also learned about some
geophysical methods. In addition, I recognized some historical and cultural places in western Turkey.
I wasn’t aware of these places before the project. I observed many beautiful historical places.
Another advantage of the project for me was that I improved my English skills. We were always together
with US students during the project and I had many chances to practice speaking English. We were always
talking about Turkey and US. I learnt many things about US and their culture. One of the most important
things from the IRES program was to make new friends. We were always together during whole project period,
and we shared many things. I recommend everybody to participate in this project. This project would provide
you a lot. It was a pleasure for me to be a part of this project. Thanks to every participant. I am thankful
for everything. I hope this project will occur in the next years. Thanks to NSF – IRES. |
