GEO 346C: Introduction to Hydrogeology
This course is an introduction to physical and chemical
hydrogeology. Over the past few decades it
has become clear that the properties and movement of water over and through
earth materials is a fundamental geologic process, and that an understanding of
hydrology and hydrogeology is a basic component
of geology and environmental science. This course is intended to provide the
necessary background for
further study in hydrology, hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry
and environmental geology.
The course is divided into three equal parts: Section 1 will
examine the fundamentals of surface water hydrology and water balance;
Section 2 will deal with basic principles of groundwater and hydrogeology;
and Section 3 will be devoted to aqueous geochemistry and contaminant
chemistry. Each section will be an overview of basic concepts.
