Automatic Sample Handler

This isn't so complicated. The track holds up to 180 samples with 20 blank spaces that move below the quartz glass tube. From there they can be picked up and lowered into the magnetometer. It was designed by Joe Kirschvink at Caltech that wanted to perform faster measurements.  Previously all samples were inserted by hand.  This took long amounts of time with no break.  Now a person can set a large sample set onto this tray and let the machine do most of the work.  But keep a close eye on it!  This machine doesn't work flawlessly.
